Ecological wallpaper for allergic people - EN 12149:1997; RAL GZ-479

🍃 All eco-friendly wallpapers that meet these stricter certification requirements can be found in this section.

1. VOC A+ (Indoor air quality)

  • What it is: The highest class according to the French classification system for emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in indoor air.
  • Importance for allergic people: VOCs are the main chemical irritants that can cause headaches, breathing problems and allergic reactions. Class A+ means that emissions of these substances are reduced to a minimum, making indoor air as safe as possible.
  • Benchmark: Formaldehyde has a limit value of less than 10 µg/m3 in air according to this standard (which is much stricter than many other standards) and is one of the most potent allergens.

2. Formaldehyde emissions (< 120 mg/kg)

  • What it is: An indication of very low formaldehyde content in the material itself.
  • Formaldehyde is known to be a strong allergen and mucous membrane irritant. This particular low value shows that the manufacturer actively controls the content of this substance, which is very important for people with asthma or hypersensitivity.

3. EN 12149:1997 (Safety of composition)

  • What it is: European standard specifying test methods for wallpaper for the release of heavy metals, vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) and formaldehyde.
  • Importance for allergic people: This test confirms that the wallpaper does not contain dangerous toxic substances and carcinogens. It guarantees the safety of the raw materials and not just the finished products.

RAL GZ-479 (Quality and Production)

  • What it is: German quality mark for RAL wallpaper.
  • It guarantees strict compliance with ecological and sanitary standards in the production process, the use of non-toxic raw materials and compliance with high quality standards. It serves as an additional guarantee of the responsible approach of the manufacturer.

5. ISO 16000 (Test Method)

  • What it is: An international series of standards describing procedures for measuring indoor air quality.
  • ISO 16000 certification confirms that all VOC emission tests were carried out in accredited laboratories using the most rigorous and internationally recognised methods.
